A Soft Place to Land

ACC Funded Trauma-Sensitive Yin Programme

A nine-week healing journey for women, including a nurturing day retreat.

A Soft Place to Land is a trauma-sensitive Yin Yoga programme supporting women to reconnect with themselves through rest, stillness, embodied awareness and compassionate self-attention.

Unlike more active forms of yoga, Yin Yoga offers a slower pace and inward focus. Through gentle, floor-based postures, participants are invited to notice their internal experience without pressure to perform, achieve or push beyond their own limits.

The programme supports nervous system regulation through gentle, choice-based practices that help participants build greater capacity to stay present with physical sensations, emotions and internal experiences.

With an emphasis on autonomy, non-judgement and self-compassion, A Soft Place to Land offers an accessible approach for a wide range of bodies and abilities, including people living with chronic pain, fatigue, stress or limited mobility.

What We Will Explore

Across the nine weeks, participants will explore:

  • the window of tolerance

  • nervous system regulation

  • the role of the vagus nerve

  • stress, safety and connection

  • developing greater awareness of internal sensations

  • building capacity for rest and self-regulation

  • how the body can move towards healing when given supportive conditions

These themes are woven through movement, breath, stillness, reflection and shared experience, supporting understanding that can be experienced within the body as well as understood cognitively.

Who Is This Programme For?

A Soft Place to Land may be suitable for women who:

  • have an approved ACC Sensitive Claim

  • are currently engaged in Sensitive Claims therapy

  • experience mild to moderate mental health challenges, including PTSD

  • feel disconnected from their body or find it difficult to rest

  • experience chronic stress, fatigue, pain or nervous system activation

  • would like to build greater self-compassion and body awareness

  • are looking for a gentle, supportive and accessible group environment

No previous yoga experience is required, and practices can be adapted for different bodies, abilities and levels of experience.

What To Expect

Each 60-minute session includes a trauma-sensitive Yin practice designed to support gentle reconnection with the body in a safe and supportive environment.

Participants can expect:

  • gentle, choice-based movement

  • opportunities to explore rest and stillness

  • nervous system regulation practices

  • breath and embodied awareness

  • space for reflection and connection

  • a supportive environment where personal limits and choices are respected

The programme is designed to help participants deepen their understanding of how the body responds to stress, safety and connection, while developing greater compassion towards themselves.

A Nurturing Day Retreat

The programme concludes with a six-hour retreat, offering dedicated space to rest, integrate and honour the journey.

The retreat includes:

  • Yin and restorative practices

  • time in nature

  • quiet reflection

  • unstructured opportunities for connection

  • simple rituals supporting grounding, healing and completion

As the programme draws to a close, participants are invited — if they wish — to reflect on their experience, acknowledge their growth and rest within the support of community.
