ACC Sensitive Claims (ISSC)

The Nelson Clinic has an experienced team of clinicians nation-wide that are ACC accredited to provide assessments and therapy related to sexual trauma.

These services are available to any adult or child who has experienced sexual trauma in New Zealand at any point in their lives.

This support is fully funded by ACC and you can start by contacting us whenever you are ready. There are also support services available for your family and whānau.

Accessing Sensitive Claims therapy

To access this service, you will need to meet with one of our ACC registered therapists who will explain the process to you.

  • You can start therapy as soon as a therapist is available

  • You do not need to wait for ACC to process your claim

  • You can choose how long you want counselling for

  • You can take a break and come back to counselling at a later date if you wish

  • It is okay to change therapists if you want someone who better suits you

Accessing Group Therapy Through ACC Sensitive Claims

If you have an accepted ACC Sensitive Claims claim, you may be eligible to participate in therapeutic group programmes as part of your recovery. Our therapeutic groups provide opportunities to build practical skills, strengthen resilience, and connect with others in a safe, trauma-informed environment. Programmes may include Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, Healthy Boundaries, Art Therapy, and other wellbeing-focused groups. Depending on the programme, groups are offered as weekly sessions or immersive day or weekend retreats. Each group is designed to support recovery by developing practical coping strategies, promoting emotional regulation, helping to reset and regulate the nervous system, and fostering a sense of connection and belonging - an important part of healing from trauma.

ACC can fund up to 32 hours of group therapy per year (subject to eligibility and approval). To attend a group, your Lead Provider will need to discuss whether group therapy is clinically appropriate for you and submit a request for approval to your ACC Recovery Coordinator/Service Coordinator. If you're interested in joining one of our groups, explore the programmes we offer and let your Lead Provider know which one(s) you would like to attend. They can then work with ACC to determine whether the group is suitable for your treatment plan.

Not sure if you're eligible?

If you'd like to learn more about our group programmes, speak with your Lead Provider or contact the facilitator for the group you are interested in, via the contact details on each webpage

Browse our current group offerings and discuss any that interest you with your Lead Provider, who can determine whether they are appropriate for your treatment plan and seek ACC approval where required.
