Emma Newcombe

Bachelor of Counselling. IFS-informed counsellor

Counselling with me can be a deep dive into the ways your past experiences have shaped you, or a constructive conversation to help you think. Central to my practice are trauma-informed approaches, and an understanding how our nervous systems work and interrelate (‘interpersonal neurobiology’). Curiosity, compassion, and humour are important as well.

I have completed advanced training in Internal Family Systems (IFS). I find this to be a fascinating and positive approach to our personal and societal challenges. IFS seeks to understand the positive (often protective) intent behind our most difficult beliefs, feelings, and behaviours. This understanding then reveals a pathway to the transformation of our experience.

It is important to find the right counsellor for you. So, a bit about me: I am Pākehā and have also lived in the UK and South America. I am outdoorsy, and a lover of the arts. I have professional experience in corporate and academic environments, in creative and scientific capacities. My life and workplace experience help me relate well to a range of people.

Any issues you bring to our sessions are welcome. Some of my particular interests or relevant life experience are relationships and attachment; migration and racism; workplace challenges; environmental grief; and long covid. All genders, cultures, neurotypes, sexualities, ages and abilities are welcome. I will do everything in my power to keep you safe and meet you where you are at.
